Armillaria fuscipes

Armillaria fuscipes is a basidiomycete fungus in the family Physalacriaceae, described by Petch in 1909, that causes Armillaria root rot in a wide variety of trees. Its hosts include tropical pine species such as Pinus elliottii, Pinus kesiya, Pinus patula and Pinus taeda, along with tea and coffee plants and various hardwoods. Infected plants show stunting, sparse foliage and leaf chlorosis, with white fan-shaped fungal growth visible between bark and wood and black mycelial cords around the roots; the fungus is notably bioluminescent, one of relatively few glowing fungal species. It is common from South Africa to Ethiopia and has significant economic impact on Kenya's tea industry.
