Colletotrichum sublineolum

Colletotrichum sublineolum, formerly misidentified as Colletotrichum sublineola, is a fungal pathogen that causes anthracnose in sorghum and wild rice and ranks among the most important sorghum diseases, causing yield losses of up to twenty five percent. Symptoms appear as small circular red or orange lesions with distinct margins on stalks, leaves and seeds, sometimes containing dark fungal structures, with brown sunken areas developing on stems. Management includes resistant varieties, certified seed, delayed planting after the onset of seasonal rainfall, crop rotation with non-host crops, and removal of crop residue and alternate hosts such as Johnson grass.
