Narinder Singh Randhawa, born March 13, 1927, and died November 26, 1996, was an Indian agricultural scientist and writer who specialized in plant nutrition and soil fertility research. After earning his PhD from the University of California in 1964, he returned to India, coordinated micronutrient research projects, served as a professor at Punjab Agricultural University, and led the Indian Council of Agricultural Research as director general from 1979 until his retirement in 1985. He presided over the Indian Society of Soil Science in 1980 and 1981, held fellowships in the Indian National Science Academy and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 1989, India's third-highest civilian award, along with the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award and the National Citizen Award.
