Soil Science

The scientists whose defining work concerns the soil itself as a medium for plant growth: soil fertility and fertilizer management, the instruments and methods used to study soil solution and water movement through it, irrigation and water management for crop production, and the environmental and water-quality dimensions of agricultural soil use. A small group by member count, gathered separately from Agronomy and Crop Science because soil science is its own recognized university department and professional discipline distinct from general crop and farm management.
