Radhelal Harelal Richharia, who lived from 1909 to 1996, was an Indian agronomist and rice scientist renowned for his extensive work conserving indigenous rice varieties, amassing a collection of roughly 19,000 rice varieties over his career. He directed the Central Rice Research Institute in Cuttack from 1959 to 1966, survived the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, and his collection is now housed at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University in Raipur, where a research laboratory was named for him in 2014.
