Charles Vancouver Piper

Charles Vancouver Piper (1867 to 1926) was an American botanist and agriculturalist who spent most of his career at the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1903 onward. He worked on the domestication and introduction of grasses, bringing Sudan grass from Africa to North America as a forage crop, and in 1923 wrote, with William Joseph Morse, The Soybean, a monograph that helped establish soybean as a major American crop; he was a founding member and later president of the American Society of Agronomy.
