Hari Krishan Jain, born May 28, 1930, and died April 8, 2019, was an Indian cytogeneticist known for advancing the understanding of genetic recombination and the control of interchromosome levels, work that contributed to wheat development programs. He served as chancellor of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal and as director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, and he authored five books on plant breeding and genetics, including works on the history and impact of the Green Revolution on Indian agriculture. His honors included the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1966, considered one of India's highest scientific awards, the Padma Shri in 1981, India's fourth-highest civilian honor, and the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Award, Borlaug Award and Om Prakash Bhasin Award.
