Ebrahimali Abubacker Siddiq was an Indian agricultural scientist whose research in genetics and plant breeding helped develop high-yielding rice varieties including dwarf basmati and hybrid rice. He created Pusa Basmati-1, the first high-yielding dwarf basmati variety, developed quick-maturing rice strains including Pusa 2-21, Pusa 33 and Pusa 4, and produced DRRH-1, recognized as India's first hybrid rice variety, alongside foundational research on adaptability, stability, convergent breeding, and the cytogenetics and phylogenetics of rice. Over his career he published more than 150 research papers and supervised 35 doctoral students.
