Dilbagh Singh Athwal, born October 12, 1928, and died May 14, 2017, was an Indian-American geneticist and plant breeder known as the Father of the Wheat Revolution in India for his pioneering research developing superior wheat varieties, including PV 18 in 1966 and Kalyansona in 1967. He headed the Plant Breeding Department at Punjab Agricultural University and later became the inaugural deputy director general of the International Rice Research Institute, and his work was recognized with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1964 and the Padma Bhushan in 1975.
