David Thomatis was an Italian-born Australian educator and agriculturalist who developed Caravonica cotton, a strain grown at his plantation near Cairns, Australia, around the turn of the twentieth century that was marketed successfully around the world. He also served as an alderman, and in 1906 as chairman, of the Barron Shire Council until 1909.
