Friedrich Gottlieb Stebler

Friedrich Gottlieb Stebler was a Swiss agriculturalist who studied at the Universities of Halle and Leipzig, established a seed control station in 1875 and taught agricultural subjects at ETH Zurich from 1876 to 1901. His research focused on forage crops, alpine agriculture and pastoralism, and his 1889 book The Best Forage Plants was translated into English; from 1888 to 1899 he produced the exsiccata series Schweizerische Graser-Sammlung, a collection of dried Swiss grass specimens, in collaboration with other botanists, and he edited the Schweizerischen Landwirtschaftlichen Zeitung from 1889 to 1916, making him an influential voice in Swiss agricultural discourse.
