Otto Frederick Hunziker

Otto Frederick Hunziker, born in Switzerland in 1873, emigrated to the United States and became a pioneering figure in dairy science education and industry as both educator and technical innovator. At Purdue University from 1905 to 1917 he established and led the dairy department, developed standardized testing methods including for butterfat analysis, and published more than fifty scientific bulletins on dairy production. He authored the influential textbooks The Butter Industry and Condensed Milk and Milk Powder, helped found the American Dairy Science Association and served as its third president, chaired its Committee on Official Methods of Testing Milk and Cream from 1910 to 1926, and later managed the Blue Valley Creamery Company while representing American dairy interests at international congresses in London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Stockholm and The Hague, earning recognition as one of the Ten Master Minds of Dairying and induction into the National Dairy Shrine.
