Modadugu Vijay Gupta, born in 1939, is an Indian biologist and fisheries scientist considered a pioneer of the blue revolution in Southeast Asia. He was awarded the World Food Prize in 2005 for developing and disseminating low cost techniques for freshwater fish farming, using tilapia species, among the rural poor, and in 2015 he was selected for the first Sunhak Peace Prize for creating an aquaculture system for poor rural populations across Asia, Africa and the Pacific.
