Clare Sewell Read, born 1826 and died 1905, was a British agriculturist and Conservative politician who represented East Norfolk, South Norfolk and West Norfolk in Parliament across three separate periods between 1865 and 1885. He built his agricultural reputation through Royal Agricultural Society prizes, the chairmanship of the Farmers Club and the presidency of the Norfolk Chamber of Agriculture, and in 1879 he served as assistant commissioner to the Royal Commission on Agricultural Depression, traveling sixteen thousand miles to investigate North American wheat production. Norfolk farmers presented him with his portrait in 1897 in recognition of his services to agriculture.
