Alan Cathcart, 3rd Earl Cathcart

Alan Frederick Cathcart, 3rd Earl Cathcart, born 1828 and died 1905, was a British landowner and agricultural writer who introduced the term economic ornithology during debates over whether English sparrows helped or harmed farming interests. His writing connected bird biology to agricultural economics at a time when the value of common farmland birds was being actively contested.
