David Lubin, born June 10, 1849, in Poland, and died January 1, 1919, was a merchant and agriculturalist who emigrated by way of England to the United States, where he built a successful dry goods business in California before turning his attention to the causes of farmers. His advocacy culminated in the founding of the International Institute of Agriculture in Rome in 1908, an effort at international agricultural cooperation that later influenced the United States Federal Farm Loan Act and contributed to the framework later carried on by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
