Animal breeding is the branch of animal science that uses quantitative and molecular genetic methods to evaluate and select livestock for superior production and performance traits. It applies population genetics, statistics and genetic analysis to systematically improve heritable characteristics such as growth rate, milk yield and meat quality across generations.
