Viticulture

VIT-ih-kul-cher
Also Known As Winegrowing
Applied Horticulture and Horticultural Business Services

The cultivation and harvesting of grapes, a branch of horticulture old enough that a complete winery survives from around 4100 BC in the Areni-1 cave in Armenia. The viticulturist's year is canopy, water, pests and pruning, decisions that reach the glass a season later; the wine itself, as drink and cuisine, belongs to the Food Atlas, while the vineyard, the rootstock and the growing belong here. Since the phylloxera blight, nearly all of the world's wine grapes grow grafted on American roots.
