Internal Combustion Engine

Agricultural Transformation, Technology and Extension

An internal combustion engine is a heat engine in which the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer, usually air, in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. The cited article explains that the expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gases produced by combustion applies direct force to components of the engine, such as pistons or turbine blades, and moves them over a distance. For farm implements it names the power of a tractor or self-propelled machine driven by a petrol or diesel engine. Implements recorded in the atlas as powered by internal combustion are grouped under this concept.
