The Surti is a breed of water buffalo found in the Kaira and Vadodara districts of Gujarat, India, between the Mahi and Sabarmati rivers. It is medium-sized and docile, with a broad, long head convex at the top, black or brown skin, a distinctively straight back, and sickle-shaped horns that are flat and curve downward, backward and then upward at the tip, with the best specimens showing two white collar markings. Raised mainly for dairy, it yields around 1,600 to 1,800 litres of milk a year with a fat content of about 8 to 10 percent, and the finest examples are found in the Anand, Kaira and Baroda districts of Gujarat.
