The Mehsana is a breed of water buffalo from Gujarat, India, named for the town of Mehsana in the north of the state where it remains concentrated, and produced through a mixture of Murrah and Surti bloodlines. It is raised chiefly for milk and is regarded as one of the best dairy breeds in India, recognizable by its jet black skin and coat, with males weighing around 570 kilograms and females around 430 kilograms.
