John A. Pickett

John Anthony Pickett is a British chemist, born in 1945, and a professor of biological chemistry at Cardiff University. He is known for the first chemical characterization of the sex pheromones and other chemical signals, or semiochemicals, of insects including aphids, mosquitoes and sand flies that act as vectors of plant, animal and human disease, work that underpins integrated pest management strategies, and he shared the 2008 Wolf Prize in Agriculture for discoveries governing plant-insect and plant-plant chemical interactions.
