Prem Lal Gautam, born December 12, 1947, in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, is an Indian agricultural scientist and academician who serves as chancellor of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University in Pusa, Bihar. Holding a doctorate in genetics from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, he has served as vice chancellor of G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology and as director of the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, and he is recognized for developing improved varieties of wheat, soybean, ricebean, foxtail millet and buckwheat.
