Ingo Potrykus, born in 1933, is a German biologist and professor emeritus of plant sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. His research group applied gene technology to improve food security in developing countries, and together with Peter Beyer he co-invented golden rice, a genetically engineered rice biofortified with provitamin A. He chaired the Golden Rice Humanitarian Board in 2014.
