Carl Bosch (1874 to 1940) was a German chemist and engineer and a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, a pioneer of high-pressure industrial chemistry and founder of IG Farben, at one point the world's largest chemical company. He developed the Haber-Bosch process for the large-scale synthesis of fertilizers and explosives, estimated to supply the ammonia behind about one-third of annual global food production and to support nearly half of the world's population, and he also co-developed the Bosch-Meiser process for the industrial production of urea.
