Wendell Lee Roelofs is an American biochemist, born in 1938 in Orange City, Iowa, who holds the Liberty Hyde Bailey professorship in insect biochemistry at Cornell University's Department of Entomology. He was the first researcher to characterize the chemical structure of insect sex pheromones and to develop the microchemical techniques needed to isolate and identify their components, work that led directly to synthetic insect sex attractants now used as a pest control tool in agriculture.
