Venkatesan Sundaresan, born in 1952, is an Indian-American biologist and professor in the Departments of Plant Biology and Plant Sciences at the University of California, Davis. His research uses synthetic apomixis, a method of reproduction that lets a plant clone itself through seed, to fix hybrid vigor in commercial crops such as rice and maize so that farmers can replant seed from a hybrid without losing its yield advantage, work that earned him a share of the 2024 Wolf Prize in Agriculture.
